Books for Wisdom

Discover the titles that have shaped and inspired the journey of The Wisdom Space — books that support us in growing into Elders, not simply older.

These carefully curated works offer insight into the human experience, helping us make meaning of our lives and deepen our understanding of what it is to live well. Many have been shared by our community members and Elders, reflecting the books that have most influenced their paths.

We encourage you to support your local libraries, explore second-hand copies, or purchase through our Bookshop.org collection — a B-Corp dedicated to supporting independent bookshops.

We’re also delighted to celebrate a Purposeful Book Club hosted by one of our much-loved community members, Ralph, who turned 90 last year.

Each month, the group explores thought-provoking (mainly non-fiction) books that spark meaningful conversation, deepen reflection, and cultivate wisdom.

If you’re local and would like to join, you’re warmly invited to get in touch.

Breath by James Nestor

This essential book beautifully aligns with the spirit of Imbolc, a time when the land begins to breathe and we transition from the element of earth to the element of air, embracing change. Our breath is always there to anchor us into the present and to remind us of our reciprocal relationship with nature.

Here is what Zoe, one of our cherished community members had to say: “[Breath] teaches and reminds us to come back to the one sure and simple thing we all have. It brings us back to our stillness within and to the present moment.”

Given all that is taking place in the world right now, it feels as though coming back to our breath is one of the most important things we can do.
